T-Minus 365 Days

June 4, 2010

Pardon my French, but shit just got real in Weddingville. Today marks one year out for Spencer and my nuptials. How this happened I don’t know; I very carefully orchestrated a two and a half year engagement so we would have plenty of time to plan and save money, and somehow it all disappeared. Remind me to have a chat with Father Time.

I haven’t even logged onto The Knot in the past year, they just send me these threatening emails.

Anyway, I don’t know about you but for me fear is a great motivator. I’d been putting off calling a florist for ages, a florist being the last “big” vendor we hadn’t booked, but last week I got up the nerve to email our venue and ask for table measurements (we’ll get there in a minute) and a florist recommendation. Our event coordinator got back to me quickly, and then I put off calling for another week. Today I finally called, and the florist was incredibly nice, funny, and reasonably priced!* I was so happy with the results that I decided this weekend I would check some more stuff off the list.

More specifically I would figure out how much ribbon we need for our table settings (I’m getting there, I promise), and I would mock up at least one pinwheel to see if my brilliant idea for aisle decorations will work out.

I have now set up camp on the living room floor.

a. Alex P. Kitten, she’s tired of waiting for dinner.
b. The hand weights I didn’t put away this morning after working out. (Oh, hi, I have to order a wedding dress soonish.)
c. Wedding planner of doom.
d. Netbook of wonder and delight.
e. Planogram of DOOM. (So many tables, so many…)
f. Notebook of… notes… and math.
g. Rubbermaid containers of supplies you have seen before. (My ruler is not in here, I almost popped a vessel.)
h. Folder of contracts.
i. Calculator of joy!
j. Space for my ass.

It took me longer than I would have liked to figure out how much ribbon we would need, but it’s a lot of ribbon.

Oh, Martha

A lot of ribbon. Hundreds of yards of ribbon, for the many tables.

Once I get all of the Save the Dates addressed I’ll be starting on Project Ribbon. It should get interesting around here. God help us all.

*We are getting married in June in a fairly popular place and I was terrified I was going to get a response like, “Oh, sure, it’ll be around five grand!” I was throwing up in my mouth just thinking about it.

You are SO organized, Patti! While you say fear is a great motivator, I think this proves that progress [and especially pleasant progress] is also a great motivator for you!
Remember, you’re a year out. You’ve got all your major vendors booked, you’ve got contracts and a planning binder and a bin full of supplies and a planogram. You’re doing great – I don’t buy that ‘time is running out’ tag for a second! ;)
