January 1, 2013

I have an established pattern of performing better when I have a checklist.  This is true day to day at work, it’s true week to week with household chores and it’s true year to year with goals.  Last year I somehow managed not to make any specific new year’s resolutions.  When I pointed out on Facebook that this had prevented me from accomplishing anything of merit someone reminded me that I ran my first 5k, my first half marathon, and my first full marathon in 2012.

Fine, point taken, but technically those items were on a list – my list of 30 Things to do in my 30s.

Any who, I double checked and last year I didn’t have any kind of resolutions and the results, in general, are less than spectacular.  With that said, I have decided to make a list of 5 resolutions.  By this time next year, hopefully I’ll be reflecting on how I accomplished each of them with stunning results.

With no further ado, here they are:

5.   Reach my goal size.  I’ve been drifting from an 8 to a 12 for the last year.  By January 1st, 2014 I will be in a size 8 (and sometimes 6s). Physically possible, hopefully I won’t be as depressed as I was at a size 4.  …and hopefully I’ll look healthier than I did as a size 4.

4.   Eat vegan three days a week.  My father died at 37 of an MI and I’m interested in lessoning my carbon footprint.  This resolution will help me increase my odds of living longer and will help the environment.

3.   Keep track of my miles run, and keep better track of my workouts in general.  I’ll do this in my food journal.  The broader goal here is to work out more in 2013 than I did in 2012.

2.  Update this blog twice a week, because 2012 was an awful year for writing.  The good news is I finally forced my husband to watch Hotel Rwanda so I can get back on track with my DVD project!

1.  And now I’m going to be that person and just tell you that my number one resolution is top secret for now.  By 2014 you’ll know what it is, but for now I’m keeping it under my hat.  I will tell you this much: this resolution has nothing to do with conception or birth so stop clucking.

TOP SECRET?! How dare you! Who do you think you are, making a SECRET resolution?! Hahaha now I will be on the edge of my seat for months waiting to hear what it is! (Umm, that’s not a joke. My life is that boring.)
