One of my very best friends got married today! Very exciting. Michelle and her husband (HUSBAND), Geoff, got married in this gorgeous canyon in the mountains around Salt Lake City. For those of you who don’t know, Utah is ridiculously beautiful.
This was the first wedding that Spencer and I attended together, and as we got ready this morning, we realized it would do one of two things: a. make us super-excited about our wedding, or b. scare the crap out of us.
Good news is it was b. All right, it was mostly a, but it was a lot b.
In other good news, when Michelle motioned to me from her sweetheart table, hoisting her hands in the air, and I took it as a signal that my dress had slipped down and gave a master tug at the top of my dress, she, Geoff, and Spencer were the only ones who saw it. Also good news: we all laughed, some of us so hard we cried a little. (*cough*me and Michelle*cough*) Turns out she wanted to see what the vegetarian dish looked like, which makes more sense since she had just mouthed to me asking how it tasted. Huh.
That was pretty much my only social misstep for the day, in spite of my reputation. What does that mean? During introductions Michelle’s mom said, “Oh, you’re Patti!” and later, “Yes, I’ve heard, if something’s going to happen to someone, it’s going to happen to Patti.” Which prompted one of our fellow table sitters to ask, “What does that mean?” I didn’t really know what to say, since usually people have to see it a few times to believe it. I think even Michelle was in doubt before she saw a pigeon poop on my foot while I was wearing flip-flops.*
I’m so happy Michelle and Geoff met one another and that their wedding went so smoothly. She was astoundingly calm and collected all day, and everyone was so genuinely happy for her and her groom. I think that’s all you can really ask for at a wedding, that’s what makes it a success.
Okay, I’m off to get some sleep before we drive back to Tempe in the morning. That’s right, drive back.** Guess what I’m writing about on Wednesday?
*Bird poop is the temperature of boiling lava. There, I did the research so you don’t have to.
**Growing up on the East coast kind of ruined me on maps. Just because two states are next to one another doesn’t really mean anything. Salt Lake City is at the northernmost part of Utah, it’s an 11 hour drive.
